A Valentine’s Day to remember. So for the past couple weeks our neighbors puppies have been digging under the fence and coming into our backyard. A couple times we snatched the pups and brought them in the house to play. Turns out the neighbors Bichon Frise (dad) and Chihuahua (mom), uh hem, mated. Why they aren’t fixed I don’t know. But they produced 4 cute pups. We never really talked about getting another dog, but we did mention how cute these pups were and thought how it might be nice to have an indoor dog.
Little did I know that a week later Jake would go and surprise me with a puppy! (He surprised me with Bandit for Christmas back in 2005. Actually, he surprised me with the information to get another dog. We went around to shelters until we found a dog I liked. We found Bandit at 5 months old at a shelter in Pinole.) Apparantly he paid for Mesa a week before he gave her to me. She barely weighed 3 pounds!
She arrived in our family on the Friday before Valentine’s Day, February 11th. She was born on December 4, 2010. The neighbors kept the puppies inside until they were about 8-9 weeks old and then put them outside to stay. At that time was when they started coming into our yard.
With dad at the top and a sibling in the middle.
Mom with a sibling below her. She’s the one who over the last 2 years had chewed on the fence board and made it break to where she can almost fit though to come in our yard. I doubt she’d actually come in. Not with our other dogs. She just thinks she’s tough because she’s behind a fence. :) Below is a sweet pic of Mesa and her daddy. Awww!
The below pics are as follows:
Shyla got her first puppy scratch…and didn’t like it.
Shyla will NOT put her down. I’m sure it will wear off, but for the time being she carries her EVERY.WHERE! Even puts her in her toys (shopping cart pic) and carries the toys around.
Potty training time. Yes, she’s asleep on her pee pee pad like it’s a blanket. Not what I had in mind when potty training.
At first we couldn’t come up with a name. We got Smokey first and had his name for him. When we got our second dog, Bandit just seemed fitting. The third dog? Hmmm. We came up with Khaki and Mesa and decided that Khaki didn’t work because she wasn’t khaki colored enough… so Mesa is was! We got the idea from how my parents dog Corky got her name. She’s from Corcoran and named Corky. So we got Mesa from the next street over Mesa Ridge and named her Mesa. Welcome to our family Mesa!
