In early July, we needed to stop off at a gas station to get gas for the car. We looked around and saw two close by. Stopped at a light we were trying to figure out which to go to. We saw one was considerably (considerably for a gas station that is) lower than the other, so we choose the lesser of the two. Seems everyone else thought the same thing. It's hard to tell in the pictures, but at the Shell across the street there were only two spaces being used. One was a gold minivan, the other is behind pump #9. 
On our side at the Arco, all the spaces were being used and there were a few people waiting in line. 
Here's the reason why. Shell's gas was $3.15 and Arco's was $3.03. Now if we can only get other companies to do the same thing! 
In the last several months, we've had our water, cable, internet, garbage, medical, and vehicle registration bills all increase. I'm sure our PG&E bill went up too, but they never sent out an official "we're raising your bill" notice. Oh, and most of them went up during the same month, July. I know that times are rough right now and the economy just isn't recovering as fast as people predicted several years ago, but I think utility companies need to find another way to get their needs met besides just passing along the expense to the user. As if times aren't hard enough, the longer things stay tough, and the longer people get laid off or hours cut, the more people will struggle to pay just regular living expenses, which when it can't be done anymore because the cost of living is too darn expensive, it's a sure for-clo-sure. Thus bringing us full circle to why the economy tanked in the first place. Round and round we go... where it stops... only God knows.
